"Our Schools Are In Crisis"

"Our children are trapped under a public education system weighed down by union demands, state and federal mandates, and a fat, unresponsive bureaucracy" - Juan Williams

More and more, Juan Williams is becoming one of my favorite modern-day American heroes...First he took on the problems of black America, in his book Enough, and now he's going after the problems of the American education system.  Particularly the need for more school choice, and attacking the tremendous flaws of American teacher's unions.

What's most heroic about these actions is Juan Williams is a black Liberal; what he really is is a true American...An American who isn't afraid of upsetting those within his ideological mindset.  Our country would be better off if we could find more like Williams - on the Left and Right.

Please watch the video below.  It focuses specifically on Chicago (a severe case), but it's the story of every American city - including 'wealthy, white' cities.  The video is 29 minutes long, but even if you skip around and watch 5 minutes you'll get the point...Here's hoping you can find time for the entire 29.  It's only the future of our children and grandchildren.  Children who will either fix or completely ruin our great country.

I've watched this entire video four times (those who know me and my attention span know I rarely devote 30 minutes to any one subject)...I'm not too proud to admit I've teared up during portions of it each time.  I'm also not too proud to admit one of the things I'm most thankful for is living in a state where my children have been able to go to charter schools.  They aren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I swear a charter school and its principle saved one of my children, and another is giving a fantastic opportunity to my other child.
